LJA's Approach to Equality and Diversity

For us, Equality and Diversity is about mutual respect and dignity in everything we do.  We try to ensure that the values and principles underpinning our work are consistently expressed and supported through the relationships we build with our clients and the learning opportunities we deliver.

Our belief is that values and principles are brought to life and made real by what we do and say and that everyone at LJA will work in a way which is:

  • Non-judgemental
  • Participative
  • Respectful of all individuals
  • Inclusive
We have clear principles on which we base our work and are able to demonstrate this in practical strategies which are used by all of us and which are promoted by the learning opportunities we offer.

  • We openly acknowledge the diversity of people's life experiences and how these can affect views and beliefs
  • As trainers and coaches we recognise the power of modelling behaviour which we wish to promote
  • We accept the difficulty of changing people's prejudices whilst being clear that actions or language which discriminate against others is unacceptable
  • We regularly consider the question "Am I excluding anyone because of my mindset?"
At LJA we avoid having a shopping list of do/don't words, but ask questions like these:
  • are my words or behaviour excluding anyone or conveying negativity towards a group or individual?
  • am I making assumptions or judgements about a group or individuals?
  • am I preventing a group or individual from being heard ?
  • how can I make sure that everyone feels they have a chance to contribute?
We want our training to reflect a belief that people's behaviour can be altered or adapted by seeing alternative behaviours modelled for them, having useful learning experiences or through reasoned discussion.  This learning process includes the potential for individuals to contribute their own experiences and to have these recognised and respected.
