Delivering on your objectives

LJA well placed to offer quality & value in 2009

In the last six months it has become clear that the economic downturn is likely to be with us for a while. However, it seems that all over the UK the majority of organisations are still planning to continue with their investments in staff training.

In a poll commissioned by the Association of Colleges in November 2008, 70% of company directors said they planned to invest in training for their staff. Of the 600 bosses interviewed 18% said they planned to increase the amount of investment in training.

This approach is in line with government thinking - in June of last year - the Skills Secretary, John Denham commented that “investment in skills is key to ensuring we come through with a stronger economy” and he predicted that if Parliament passes a new bill in 2010 to give employees the legal right to request time off to train, then an extra 30,000 people per year will receive training. Yet incredibly, a third of employers still do not train their staff and around 8 million employees annually receive no training.

At LJA we are passionate about delivering real practical skills that people can apply once they are back in the workplace. With our mix of solid L&D skills and business psychology we continue to work in partnership with organisations to help them achieve their goals in these challenging times and to prepare themselves for the future upturn. We nurture people to build skills, increase their resilience and take on leadership roles, whatever their level in their organisation; and we tailor our learning to fit the needs of our clients rather than trying to wallpaper them with something we made earlier.

One trend we are experiencing is performance management, allowing organisations to retain and build on the skills of their talented individuals. Coaching is equally of paramount importance as one-to-one learning provides the opportunity to carefully tailor content to individual needs.

People are also taking an offt he- shelf learning package and asking for this to be enhanced to their own requirements to meet the organisations changing business model.

Our team is in some respects niche, as we have 2 qualified mediators, 3 coaches with highlevel psychology qualifications, an ex-HR Director, an exteacher and each of the team have over 20-years plus experience as managers in blue-chip organisations. We feel that we are well-placed to offer our clients both quality and value in these uncertain times.
