Lesley Aitcheson delivers workshop on bullying and harassment for managers at Imperial College
In October, Lesley facilitated a workshop to help managers think about the impact and issues of bullying in the work place at Imperial College. Lesley said, "At LJA we don‘t believe in politically correct laundry lists of what people can and can‘t say or do. Our workshops encourage people to reflect and think clearly about the issues. This in turn allows them foster a culture in which bullying is less likely but can be reported with confidence when it does occur. We also think about the grey areas, for example, the difference between a strong management style and bullying behaviour. In our experience, coming together to think in this way is much more powerful than a traditional 'sheep dip' classroom experience."
Christine Yates, Equalities and Diversity Consultant at Imperial College attended the workshop. Christine told us that she found it a productive and helpful approach which allowed managers to think about their own experiences and attitudes. Considering bullying and harassment from this personal perspective gave greater weight to the policies and procedures we explored on the day.
